June, 2014: Mattie
Mattie is 13 and a half years old and has been with Pewaukee Veterinary Service since 2005. When she was born we lived in Schoolcraft, MI, a suburb of Kalamazoo. Her dad was a big yellow lab and her mom was a chocolate lab, both AKC. As a puppy Mattie grew up on a lake property and a big yard. What a life! Neighbors and animals were her best friends. She has always been a very passive dog and gotten along well with all. On any day you could find her in the front yard greeting visitors with a wagging tail. She also enjoyed her time in the lake, on the dock, the Sea-Doo or the pontoon. These were her favorite spots. Mattie even loved ice fishing with my husband, Geb whom we lost in 2003. After Geb’s passing we moved to Pewaukee, WI. My dog has been my companion and housemate ever since.
Mattie loves to travel with me back to Schoolcraft, to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and many times to the Chicago area where relatives live. The past couple of years her health has been failing however. She has arthritis and dysplasia of the hind quarters, but has learned to live with it. Not so, when cancer was diagnosed in September of 2003. Thankfully she was cancer free after treatment. Then came Vestibular Disease in March of 2014. I almost lost her. I made some big decisions to give her some more quality time and she is doing well. Thanks to all of the vets at Pewaukee Veterinary Service and The Wisconsin Veterinary Referral Center, the technicians and the office staff for being so understanding and compassionate during her recovery. Her tail is still wagging!!
